16
Q

How do you tell a ileostomy from a colostomy?

A

Fluid - I = more fluid, C = more faecal

Location - I = RIF , C = LIF

Size - I = smaller, C = larger

Extension - I = protrudes, C = flush with skin

17
Q

What do you need to monitor in ileostomy patients?

A

Fluid balance

Electrolyte balance

Necrosis

Retraction

18
Q

What is an anterior resection?

A

Removal of sigmoid colon plus some rectum

19
Q

When is an end ileostomy done? What volume of fluid would you expect to be present?

A

Usually in emergencies

Temporary

500-700ml

20
Q

What is a abdomino-perineal resection?

A

Removal of rectum and anus

21
Q

How much does the stomach, bile, and small bowel/pancreas produce per day?

A

Stomach: 1500ml

Bile: 1000ml

Small bowel/pancreas: 3000-3500ml

22
Q

What determines how much colon you take in cancer resection?

A

The arterial supply for the area
