What are some non-operative treatments for arthritis?
E - Education
L - Lifestyle modifications
M - Medications - panadol osteo, NSAIDs, glucosamine supplement
P - Physio
O - Orthoses - unloading brace, wetsuit
P - Prosthetics - stick, crutches
I - Injections - steroids, viscosupplementation
What are some joint preserving procedure?
Arthroscopy
Cartilage graft
Osteotomy - to correct a deformity
What are some joint sacrificing operations?
Arthroplasty - total, hemi, partial
Arthrodesis - Fusion of a joint
What is the structure of a total knee replacement mechanism?
Two components
- Femoral and tibial
How is a total knee replacement performed?
Remove the articular surface of tibia, patella, and femur and replace with components
What the post management of a TKR?
IV cephazolin 1g IV for 24 hours
DVT propylaxis - 40mg clexane
Early mobilisation
How do you decide whether to cement or not cement a hip replacement?
Quality of the bone - cement better for poor bone
What are the components of the hip replacement?
Acetabulum

What are some complications of joint replacements?
Early
