What is the dose of naloxone?
A
0.4mg in 10ml fluid iv, repeat every 2 minutes up to 4 times

Contraindications of naloxone
A
Hypersensitivity only
Caution in opiate dependence inc. newborns, may induce acute abstinence syndrome

Side effects of naloxone
A
Patient likely v angry when wakes
Nausea, vomiting, sweating, tremor, cold turkey

How is naloxone eliminated?
A
Glucuronated in liver, excreted in urine

How does the half life of naloxone compare to that of morphine?
A
T1/2 of naloxone is shorter than for morphine so repeated dosing may be required

How does naloxone work and what is it used for?
A
Opiate overdose or oversedation- competitively binds to mu-opioid receptors in CNS
