mycology cardiorespiratory Flashcards
what are our three upper respiratory mycoses
aspergillosis
cryptococcosis
rhinosporidiosis
diffuse seeding in the lungs of a dog
1 ddx is blastomycosis
what are the main fungi that infect dogs from the four we learned in DWT
blasto, histo and coccidoides
who gets cryptococcus
cats
what is the treatment, diagnoses, and prognosis differences between canine nasal aspergillosis and canine disseminated aspergillosis
canine nasal: diagnose with tissue culture or antibodies, treat topically, 90% cure
disseminated: diagnose with antigen test, most euthanize in one week.
equine: unilateral epistaxis, dysphagia, discharge, sudden nasal hemorrhage and death
ddx: gutteral pouch mycosis
what is the pathophysiology of equine pulmonary aspergillosis
horse had colic/colitis/glucocorticoids -> GIT compromised -> aspergillosis invades and enters blood stream -> showers lungs with embolic nodules
where do rhinosporidium live and what is the main sign they cause:
warm water. polypoid masses or nodules in the nose
What does pneumocystosis cause and in what patients
chronic diffuse interstitial pneumonia in severely immunocompromised patients. Weiner dogs and CKCS
what is the main presenting signs in canine disseminated aspergillosis
musculoskeletal, neuro, respiratory. bony lysis lymphadomegaly
