16
Q

whats the antagonist muscle

A

the muscle that relaxes allowing the movement to occur

17
Q

3 examples of antagonistic muscle pairs

A

bicep curl(bicep agonist and triceps)
flexion of knee ( hamstring agonist and quad)
extension of knee ( quad agonist and hamstring)

18
Q

whats the origin + example

A

the muscle attachment to stable bone, bicep = scapula

19
Q

whats the insertion + example

A

muscle attachment moving bone , bicep = radius

20
Q

whats the fixator + example

A

stabiles origin of agonist muscle,
traps stabilise scapular during bicep curl

21
Q

whats the gastrocnemius and tibialis anterior antagonistic muscle pair

A

responsible for dorsi and plantar flexion
dorsi flexion = tibialis agonist
plantar flexion = gastrocnemius agonist

22
Q

whats the hip flexor and gluteus maximus muscle pair

A

flexion of the hip = hip flexor agonist
extension of the hip = gluteus maximus agonist

23
Q

what are the 3 muscle types - brief description

A

voluntary muscles - muscles which pull on bone to provide movement
cardiac muscles - involuntary muscles in your heart which pump blood around the body
involuntary muscles - blood vessels, responsible for vascular shunting

24
Q

what are the short term effects of exercise on the muscular system

A

when you start to exercise the muscles require energy quickly and they use the oxygen stores in the muscles, haemoglobin in the blood
during recovery increased breathing rate for extra oxygen to replenish myoglobin stores, break down lactic acid, allow energy stores to be replenished
anaerobic respiration causes muscle fatigue and the build of of lactate
