joints Flashcards
what are the 4 types of joints
pivot, ball and socket, hinge, condyloid
what is the range of movement at a pivot joint, with example
rotation, for example the atlas and axis joint in the neck provide movement of the neck left and right
what is the range of movement at a ball and socket joint , with example
shoulder and hip flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, internal rotation, circumduction for example the shoulder and hip joint provide movement for the arm and leg
what is the range of movement at a hinge joint, with example
flexion and extension, for example movement of the knee and elbow. Ankle has dorsiflexion (natural position) and plantar flexion (pointed toes)
what is the range of movement at a condyloid joint, with example
flexion, extension, abduction and adduction (sideways movement) and circumduction, for example the wrist using circumduction as a spin bowler
whats circumduction
combination of movements to create a circular movement, e.g. wrist condyloid joints using circumduction to spin a ball in cricket
