What does the skeleton do?
supports the muscles, blood vessels and nerves of the body and protects the organs.
What is a joint?
where one bone meets the other.
What does a muscle do?
allows various parts of the body to move.
What do ligaments do?
hold moveable joints together.
What do tendons do?
hold muscle to the bone.
What are the 4 types of injury?
soft, fracture, ligament, tendon.
What is a sprain?
Overextension or tearing of a ligament, pain is located at the joint.
What are signs of a sprain?
swelling, pain and discolouration.
What are symptoms of a sprain?
impaired motions at times.
What is a fracture?
Break or damage to a bone open or closed.
What is a Cole’s fracture?
Is an extra-articular fracture of the distal radius with dorsal and radial displacement of the wrist and hand.
What is a tendon?
A flexible but inelastic cord of strong fibrous collagen tissue attaching a muscle to a bone.
What is elevation?
a movement that raises a bone vertically – mandibles are elevated during biting and clavicles during a shrug.
What is depression?
lowering the mandible or the shoulders
What is inversion?
turning the sole of the foot inward.
What is eversion?
turning the sole of the foot outward.
What is dorsiflexion?
ankle movement bringing the foot towards the shin.
What is plantar flexion?
ankle movement pointing the foot downward.
What is OTTAWA?
the clinical decision rule to determine the need for diagnostic imaging for a minor trauma.
