Platysma

A

orgin: Inferior border of mandible, skin and subcutaneous tissues of lower face
insertion: Fascia covering superior parts of Pectoralis Major and deltoid muscles

Innervation: Cervical Branch of facial Nerve (CN VII)

Draws corner of mouth inferior and widens it in expressions of sadness and fright, can also pull skin superiorly if teeth are clenched

Sternocleidomastoid Muscle

A

Orgin: Lateral surface of mastoid process of temporal Bone, and lateral half of Nuchal line

Insertion: Anterior surface of manubrium of sternum
and superior surface of medial third of clavicle

Inn: Spinal Accessory N (CN XI)

Tilts head to same side but turns face to contralateral side
can also extend neck and flex cervical vertebrae so chin can touch manubrium

Trapezius Muscle

A

insertion: Medial third of superior nuchal line, external occipital protruberance, nuchal ligament, spinous processes of C7 to T12
orgin: Lateral third of clavicle, acromion, and spine of scapula

Inn: Spinal Accessory Nerve (XI)

Elevates retracts and rotates scapula superiorly

can also depress scapula

A

Orgin: Mylohyoid line of mandible

Insertion: Mylohyoid raphe and body of hyoid

Inn: Nerve to Mylohyoid

Elevates the hyoid, floor of the mouth and tongue during swallowing and speaking

A

Orgin: Inferior Mental spine of mandible

Insertion: Body of Hyoid

Inn: C1 via the hypoglossal nerve (CN XII)

Pulls hyoid anterosuperiorly, shortens floor of the mouth and widens pharynx
