Contents of second layer
- tendon of flexor digitorum longus
- tendon of flexor hallucis longus
- flexor digitorum accessorius
- lumbricals
Contents of third layer
- flexor hallucis brevis
- flexor digiti minimi brevis
- adductor hallucis
Contents of fourth layer
- tendon of tibialis posterior
- tendon of peroneus longus
- interosseous muscles
Flexor digitorum brevis origin
- medial tubercle of calcaneum
- plantar aponeurosis
- medial and lateral intermuscular septa
Flexor digitorum brevis insertion
-four tendons of lateral four toes
At base of proximal phalynx, each tendon divides into two slips that insert into margins of middle phalynx.
Tendon of flexor digitorum longus passes through this gap
Abductor hallucis origin
- medial tubercle of calcaneum
- flexor retinaculum
- medial intermuscular septa
Abductor hallucis insertion
Fuses with flexor hallucis brevis and inserts into medial side of base of proximal phalynx of great toe
Abductor digiti minimi origin
- medial and lateral tubercles of calcaneum
- lateral intermuscular septum
Abductor digiti minimi insertion
Fuses with flexor digiti minimi brevis and inserts into lateral side of base of proximal phalynx of little toe
Flexor digitorum accessorius origin
Medial head:
-medial concave surface of calcaneum
Lateral head:
-lateral tubercle of calcaneum
Flexor digitorum accessorius insertion
Lateral side of tendon of flexor digitorum longus
Lumbricals origins
1st - medial side of first tendon of FDL
2nd - adjacent sides of 1st and 2nd tendon of FDL
3rd - adjacent sides of 2nd and 3rd tendon of FDL
4th - adjacent sides of 3rd and 4th tendon of FDL
Lumbricals insertion
Passes on medial sides of lateral 4 toes and then dorsally to insert into extensor expansion
Flexor hallucis brevis origin
Lateral limb:
- Medial part of plantar surface of cuboid
- adjacent side of lateral cuneiform
Medial limb:
-continuation of tibialis posterior tendon
