Muscles of Anterolateral Abdominal Wall Flashcards
What is the origin for the external oblique?
External surfaces of 5th-12th ribs
What is the insertion for the external oblique?
Linea alba, pubic tubercle and anterior half of iliac crest
What is the innervation for the external oblique?
Thoarco-abdominal nerves (T7-T11 spinal nerves) and subcostal nerve
What is the action for the external oblique AND the internal oblique?
Compresses and supports abdominal viscera, flexes and rotates trunk
(antagonists of diaphragm; produce expiration)
What is the origin for the internal oblique?
Thoracolumbar fascia, anterior 2/3 of iliac crest and connective tissue deep to lateral third of inguinal ligament
What is the insertion for the internal oblique?
Inferior borders of 10th - 12th ribs, linea alba, and pecten pubis via conjoint tendon
What is the innervation for the internal oblique AND the Transversus abdominis ?
Thoraco-abdominal nerves (anterior rami of T6-T12 spinal nerves) and first lumbar nerves
What is the origin for the Transversus abdominis?
Internal surfaces of 7th-12th costal cartliages, thoracolumbar facis, iliac crest, and connective tissue deep to lateral third of inguinal ligament
What is the insertion for the Transversus abdominis?
Linea alba with aponeurosis of internal oblique, pubic crest, and pecten pubis via conjoint tendon
What is the action for the Transversus abdominis?
Compresses and supports abdominal viscera
What is the origin for the Rectus abdominis?
Pubic symphysis and pubic crest
What is the insertion for the Rectus abdominis?
Xiphoid process and 5th-7th costal cartilages
What is the action for the Rectus abdominis?
Flexes trunk (lumbar vertebrae) and compresses abdominal viscera (antagonists of diaphragm; produce expiration) Stabilizes and controls tilt of pelvis (antilordosis)
What is the innervation for the Rectus abdominis?
Thoarco-abdominal nerves (anterior rami of T6-T12 spinal nerves)
