Muscles Of Anterolateral Abdominal Wall Flashcards
Origin and insertion of external oblique
O: external surfaces of 5th-12th ribs
I: linea alba, pubic tubercle and anterior half of iliac crest
Name muscles of anterolateral abdominal wall (4)
External oblique, internal oblique, transverse abdominis and rectus abdominis.
Innervation of external oblique
Thoraco-abdominal nerves and subcostals nerve
Action of external oblique and internal oblique
Compresses and supports abdominal viscera, flexes and rotates trunk
Origin and insertion of internal oblique
O: thoracolumber fascia, anterior 2/3rds of iliac crest and connective tissue deep to lateral 3rd of inguinal ligament
I: inferior borders of 10th-12th ribs, linea alba and pecten pubis
Innervation of internal oblique and transverse abdominis.
Thoraco-abdominal nerves (anterior rami of T6-T12) and first lumbar nerves
Origin and insertion if transversus abdominis
O: internal surfaces of 7th -12th costal cartilages, thoracolumbar fascia, iliac crest and inguinal ligament.
I: linea alba, pubic crest, pecten pubis
Action on transversus abdominis
Compresses and supports abdominal viscera
Rectus abdominis origin and insertion
O: pubic symphysis and pubic crest
I: xiphoid process and 5th-7th costal cartilages
Innervation of rectus abdominis
Thoraco abdominal nerves (anterior rami of T6-T12 spinal nerves)
Action of rectus abdominis
Flexes trunk and compresses abdominal viscera and controls tilt of pelvis
Action of internal oblique
Compresses and supports abdominal viscera
Flexes and rotates trunk
