Gluteal Region (abductors And Rotators Of Thigh Flashcards
Innervation of gluteus maximus
Inferior gluteal nerve
O and I of gluteus Maximus
O: ilium posterior to gluteal line, dorsal surface of sacrum and coccyx ; sacrotuberous ligament
I: most fibers end in iliotibial tract, which inserts into lateral condyle of tibia ; some fibers insert on gluteal tuberosity
Action of gluteus Maximus
Extends thigh (especially from flexed position ) and assists in its lateral rotation, steadies thigh and assists in rising from sitting position
Gluteus medius o and I
O: External surface of ilium between anterior and posterior gluteal lines
I: lateral surface of greater trochanter of femur
Innervation of gluteus medius
Superior gluteal nerve
Action of gluteus medius
Abducts and medially rotates thigh; keeps pelvis level when ipsilateral limb is weight-bearing and advance opposite (unsupported) side during its swing phase
O and I of gluteus minimus
O: external surface of ilium between anterior and inferior gluteal lines
I: anterior surface of greater trochanter of femur
Innervation go gluteus medius
Superior gluteal nerve
Action of gluteus medius, minimus and tensor fascia latae
Abducts and medially rotate thigh, keep pelvis level when ipsilateral limb is wight bearing and advance opposite (unsupported ) side during its swing phase
O and I of tensor fasciae latae
O: anterior superior iliac spine ( ASIS) and anterior part of iliac crest
I: iliotibial tracts which attaches to lateral condyle of tibia
Innervation of tensor fascia latae
Superior gluteal nerve
O and I of piriformis
O: anterior surface of sacrum; sacro tuberous ligament
I: superior border of greater trochanter of femur
Nerve for piriformis
Anterior rami of s1 and s2
Action if piriformis, superior and inferior gamelli and obturator internus
Laterally rotate extended thigh and abduct flexed thigh; steady femoral head in acetabulum
Innervationof obturator internus
Nerve to obturator internus
