Anterior Axio- Appendicular Muscles Flashcards
Proximal and distal attachments of the pectorals major
P: clavicular head- anterior surface of medial half of clavicle
Sternocostal head - anterior surface of sternum, superior six costal cartilages, aponeurosis of external oblique muscle.
D: lateral lip of intertubular sulcus go humerus.
What are the muscles of the anterior axio-appendicular muscles
Pectoralis major
Pectoralis minor
Sub-clavius
Serratus anterior
Innervation of pectoralis major
Lateral and medial pectoral nerves
Clavicular head = (C5,C6)
Sternocostal head = ( C7, C8, T1)
Main action of pec major
Addicts and medically rotates humerus
Draws scapula anteriorly and inferiorly
Acting alone- clavicular head flexes humorus and sternocostal head extends it from the fixed position
Pectoralis minor proximal and distal attachments
P: 3-5 ribs near costal cartilages
D: medial border and superior surface of coracoid process of scapula
Innervation of pec minor
Medial pectoral nerve ( C8, T1)
Action of pec minor
Stabalizes scapula by drawing it inferior and anteriorly against thoracic wall
Proximal and distal attachments of the subclavius
P: junction of fist rib and it’s costal cartilage
D: inferior surface of middle third of clavicle
Innervation of subclavius
Nerve to subclavius (C5, C6)
Action of subclavius
Anchors and depresses clavicle
Proximal and distal attachments of the Serratus anterior
P: external surfaces of lateral parts of 1st-8th rib
D: anterior surface of medial border of scapula
Innervation of Serratus anterior
Long thoracic nerve (C5, C6, C7)
Action of Serratus anterior
Protracts scapula and holds it agains the thoracic wall
Rotates scapula
