Muscles Flashcards
Name 3 muscle types
- cardiac
- smooth
- skeletal
What is the composition of skeletal muscles?
actin and myosin microfilaments which makes uo the myofibrils. many myofibrils make up muscle fibre. muscle fibres make a fascicle
Name different types of skeletal muscle
flat with aponeurosis pennate (feather) fusiform (long) quadrate circular/ sphincteral
How do muscles attach to the skeleton
via tendons
- but aponeurosis attaches muscle to soft tissue rather than bone
There are 2 points of attachment. what are these called?
origin- moves least during contraction
insertions -moves most
What is muscle atrophy?
muscle wastage due to inactivity over a long period of time
what is muscle hypertrophy?
when the muscles enlarge
What is the difference between paralysis and spasticity?
paralysis involves muscles with no motor nerve control so they cant contract. on examination they have reduced tone.
Spasticity involves muscles with functioning motor nerves however the descending controls from the brain arent working properly. on examination there would be increased tone.
What type of muscle is the diaphragm?
skeletal muscle
What type of muscle is the trachea composed of?
smooth muscle
