Muscles Flashcards
What are the three muscle types?
Skeletal, smooth, and cardiac
What process supplies the energy muscles need?
Cellular respiration
What do skeletal muscles do?
They’re attached to the bone so they can move the skeleton
Where is the smooth muscle located?
In internal organs and blood vessels
Where do you find cardiac muscle?
The heart
What type of contractions do skeletal muscles have?
Short and strong
What is smooth muscles main function?
To contract slowly
What type of contractions do cardiac muscles have?
Rhythmic, electrical impulses
What are skeletal muscles made of?
Bundles of muscle fiber
What does muscle fiber contain?
Myofibrils; tiny cylinder shaped structures
What do myofibrils contain?
Filaments
What are thick filaments made of?
Myosin
What are thin filaments made of?
Actin
What are each sections of a myofibril called?
Sarcomere
