muscle tissue Flashcards
Explain basic things about muscle
Low/moderate mitotic rate
Allows/controls movement of the body
Rich blood supply needed providing sufficient oxygen calcium nutrients and removing waste products
What are the three types of muscle tissue?
Cardiac, skeletal, smooth
Where are all the different muscle tissues located?
Cardiac – heart
Skeletal – body
Smooth – digestive system
Explain if each muscle tissue is involuntary or voluntary
Cardiac – involuntary control
Skeletal- voluntary control
Smooth – involuntary control
Explain about cardiac muscle tissue
involuntary control
Only located in the heart wall
Each fibre (Cell) has one nucleus and one or more branches
The intercalated discs appear darker
When the heart contracts a wave comes cell to cell across the intercalated disks
Explain about skeletal muscle tissue
voluntary control
Move bones of the skeleton
The fibres are cylindrical
and Multiple nuclei
and 35 cm long
Skeletal muscle contraction is stimulated by motor nerve impulses from the brain or the spinal cord and end at a neuromuscular junction
Explain about smooth muscle tissue
involuntary control
Intrinsic ability has its own contraction innovated by the autonomic nervous system
Autonomic nerve impulses, some hormones and local metabolites regulate contraction,
Rich in mitochondria which make them fuel slow and sustained activity
Are present in hollow organs
How does skeletal muscle tissue look like
The fibres are cylindrical, so you can tell from the image, more big and less dots
How does Smooth muscle tissue look like
Very condensed and squished together and a lot of dots
How does cardiac muscle tissue look like?
each line isn’t straight and some of them connect to each other
