Epithelial Flashcards
What is epithelial tissue?
Lines and forms internal organs
Moderate to high mitotic rate depending on its location type and form
Name all the types of epithelial tissue
simple squamous
Simple cuboidal
Simple columnar
Stratified squamous
Stratified cuboidal
Pseudo stratified columnar
Transitional
Glandular
Explain about Simple squamous epithelium
it lines the blood vessels (endothelium)
Lines body cavities (mesothelium)
Alveoli of the lungs

Explain about stratified squamous epithelium
Lights the oral cavity, oesophagus, anus, cervix, vagina
Explain about simple and stratified cuboidal epithelium
simple: collecting tubules of kidney, rete testis, small ducts of exocrine glands, surface of ovary
stratified: Larger ducts of exocrine glands
Explain about simple, pseudostratified columnar epithelium
simple: gallbladder, collecting ducts of kidney, endocervix
Pseudostratified: respiratory tract including nose and sinuses
Explain about transitional epithelium
Lower urinary tract
Explain about glandular epithelium: simple and compound and solid organs
simple: colon, Stomach, sweat glands
compound: sebaceous glands, small salivary glands, breast and prostate
solid organs: Exocrine: major salivary glands liver and pancreas endocrine: Thyroid, anterior pituitary , pancreas
How do all the epithelial tissues look like?
Simple squamous: like squished down tissue
Simple cuboidal: like a cube
Simple columnar: like a column or a massive pole
stratified squamous: really squished together tissue, Very condensed
Stratified cuboidal: two cubes join together
Pseudostratified columnar: like the columns and poles have lost shape, squished
transitional: all the different ones together, but even
