cytoskeleton Flashcards
Describe a microtubule
A hollow tube, made from tubulin dimers
it is the largest out of three fibres
Conveyor belt of cell
Moves vesicles, granules, organelles, and chromosomes using proteins
Cytoskeletal role
Helps with cell motility
what is tubulin dimers?
it is two tubulin proteins joined together to form tubulin dimers
how does a microtubule look like
like a hollow blue tube made of many circles and it is the largest
describe a microfilament
A double helix of actin monomers
Cytokinesis (Cell division)
Cell motility (Ability to move independently)
Changes in cell shape
Endo plus exocytosis
Stability and contractility
How does a microfilament look like
it is in a double helix and it has actin proteins on the double helix
What is an intermediate filament?
A strong fibre composed of intermediate filament protein subunits
Supports plasma membrane at the locations where in contact with other cellular matrix
No role in cell motility
How does an intermediate filament look like
it looks like many tubes slightly coiled together on slightly on the end which indicate the protein subunits
