mitosis Flashcards
What happens in mitosis
No genetic change takes place – the daughter cells are identical to the parent cell
What are all the stages of mitosis in order
G2, prophase, prometaphase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase, cytokinesis
What is the first stage of mitosis
It is called G2
There are sister chromatids and in the centre is the centromere
There are loosely coiled replicated chromosomes
What is the second stage of mitosis
It is called prophase
The spindle fibres appear and the chromosomes condense
What is the third part of mitosis
It is called the prometaphase, spindle fibres attach to chromosomes and the chromosomes condense
What is the fourth part of mitosis
It is called metaphase where are the chromosomes align
What is the fifth part of mitosis
It is called anaphase, the centromere’s divide, and the sister chromatids move to opposite poles
What is the sixth part of mitosis
It is called the telophase, the nuclear membrane reforms, the chromosomes decondense, the spindle fibres disappear
What is the seventh and final stage of mitosis
It is called cytokinesis, the cytoplasm divides, and the parent cell becomes two daughter cells with identical genetic information
