Muscle Physiology ML1 Flashcards
4 characteristics of skeletal muscle
uses atp, striated, voluntary, needs increase of calcium
4 characteristics of cardiac muscle
uses atp, involuntary, striated, requires increase calcium
3 characteristics of smooth muscle
uses atp, involuntary, increase calcium
Top bottom structure to skeletal muscle
whole skeletal muscle, muscle fiber, myofibrils, thick and thin filaments, myosin and actin molecules
What does every myosin molecule have?
long heavy chain segment that forms the core filament and 2 globular heads
Sarcomere
one unit of repeating thin and thick filaments
Z disc/band
where actin in anchored to the sarcomere, seperates sarcomeres
I Band
light band, only thin filaments (actin)
A band
dark band, overlap of thick and thin filaments
H zone
center of the sarcomere where this is no filament overlap, only thick filaments (myosin)
M line
supporting proteins that hold thick filaments together in the H zone, middle of the dark filaments
Sarcolemma
plasma membrane: has ecf inside
