Muscle Physiology ML 5 Flashcards
What is the structure of smooth muscle
arranged diagonally and thing filaments are anchored to plasma membrane or dense bodies
5 ways to excite oor activate cells
NT
Hormones
Local factors
Strecth
Spontaenous Electrical Actvity
Pacemaker potential
slowly depolarizes membrane to threshold and AP occurs
-always leads to contraction
Slow wave oattern
stimulus applied and it depolarizes and AP occurs at peak which leads to contraction
What is tone
continuous and partial contraction
Why does tone occur
the continous presence of intraceullar calcium which allows XBs to happen
What are the two sources of cytosolic calcium
extraceullar and intracellular
extracellular calcium
enter the cell thrugh calcium channels
-doesnt always lead to an AP
Intraceullar calcium
release from SR
-metabolic receptors are couple to G proteins
-acivtion leads to release of Ip3
-IP3 can bind to receptord on the SAR and release calcium
-contraction occur but no AP needeed
