Muscle Actions Flashcards
Trapezius ascending
Depresses
Trapezius descending
Elevates
Trapezius middle or all together
Retracts scapula
Ascending and descending trapezius
Rotate glenoid cavity superiorly
Latissimus dorsi
Adduction, extension, medial rotation of humerus
Also pull up motion
Lavator scapula
Elevates scap
Tilts it’s glenoid cavity inferiorly by rotating scapula
Rhomboids
Retract scapula
Fix scapula to thoracic wall
Rotate scapula to depress glenoid cavity
Splenius alone
Lateral flexing of neck and ratation of easy to side of acting muscle
Splenius together
Extend head and neck
Erector spinae acting bilaterally
Extend vertebral column and head
As flexion occurs, they control motion by gradually lengthening their fibers
Semispinalis
Extends head, thoracic and cervical regions, and rotates them contralaterally
Multifidus
Stabilizes vertebrae during local movements
Unilateral contraction rotates to contralateral side
Rotatores
Organs of proprioception
Stabilize vertebrae and assist with rotation and rotary movements of vertebral column
Muscles of sub occipital triangle
Postural muscles acting on head directly
Scm unilateral
Lateral flexion to same side
contralateral rotation
