multiple hazard zones Flashcards
what is a multiple hazard zone
where a number of physical hazards combine to create an increased level of risk for the country and its population
when is a multiple hazard zone problems compounded
-the countries population is vulnerable
-the country suffers repeated events so never extended period of recovery
what happens to a disaster risk within a certain area
-there can be variation in disaster risk in a smaller geographical zone e.g. a country
-for example more developed areas = urbanisation = higher risk and rural= low population density= reduced risk
what leads to exposure to risk from two or more hazard groups
-hydro-meteorological hazards, tectonic hazards
what is the result from the interaction of different hazards and vulnerability of a population
-hotspots
-likely where plate boundaries intersect with major storm belts
-in areas of high concentration or medium developed countries
what has huge implications on helping reduce impact/ implications of hazards
- identifying hotspots
-helps investment planning, disaster preparation and loss prevention
issues stopping hazard prone areas protection and prevention
-have priorities that come before risk management e.g. poverty management and fighting HIV/ AIDS
-may not have technology to cope with multiple hazards
what are multiple hazard zones also known as
disaster hotspots
