what does indiviual worship involve?
prayer, the main types of prayer are:
-asking: petition(for ourselves), and intercession (for others)
-sorrow
-thanksgiving
-praise and adoration
what does community worship involve?
the sacraments and the liturgical seasons
what are the five liturgical seasons within the church?
-advent
-Christmas
-lent
-easter
-ordinary time
what are the seven sacraments?
-sacraments of healing - anointing of the sick, reconciliation
-sacraments of initiation - Baptism, confirmation, Eucharist
-sacraments of Ministry - holy orders, marriage
why is worship important for Christians?
because it allows them to thank God both individually and as a community
why does worship improve a person’s relationship with God?
because prayer is a form of communication
why might christians worship?
-it connects followers with God and helps them to understand him better
-it shows appreciation for what God has done for us
-it acknowledges that God is greater than us, and that he is the creator and sustainer
-it brings people together as fellow believers so they can connect as one big family
why might some christians think that it is essential to worship as a community?
-going to church shows that you are associating yourself with Christianity
-showing love for God and each other within a christian community is a valuable source of encouragement
-during formal worship with others there are opportunities to strengthen your faith
-communion is an especially important act of worship for many christians, and by definition it is done with others
Why might some Christian’s not think that it is essential to worship with others?
Because:
-Worship is about your personal relationship with God, not about others,
-many very spiritual Christian’s have lived solitary lives in meditation and prayer,
-The Kingdom of God happens when people show love to those outside the community of faith.
-The Parable of the Sheep and the Goats suggests the true sign of faith is love for others who are struggling.
