What are the arguments in favour of Jesus rising from the dead?
-Jesus is divine; therefore the resurrection is possible.
-There is evidence in the Gospels that Jesus rose from the dead.
-Jesus foretold that he would rise from the dead.
-Many early Christians were willing do die for their faith it is unlikely that the would die for something they knew to be a hoax.
What are the arguments against Jesus rising from the dead?
-It is scientifically impossible for someone to rise from the dead.
-The only evidence comes from witnesses who might not be reliable.
-The Gospel accounts of the resurrection may appear contradictory, therefore you cannot rely on the evidence from the bible.
-His body could have been stolen from the tomb.
Describe the Death of Jesus.
When Jesus died…
-He was crucified at a place called Golgotha (which means the place of a skull)
-Everything went dark for 3 hours
-The soldiers cast lots for his clothes
-The King Of The Jews was written above his head, describing why he was being crucified
Explain why the Crucifixion and death of Jesus is important for Christians today.
The death of Jesus is important for Christians today because they believe that:
-Jesus died to forgive humanity of their sins
-Jesus death is seen as a victory over satan, and the resurrection is seen as the ultimate victory of good over evil
-It shows how much God loves humanity considering he sent his son to die for the forgiveness of our sins
-God offers a way out of suffering through himself
Describe the Resurrection of Jesus.
When the sabbath was over Mary Magdalene, Mary mother of James, and Salome anointed Jesus with spices. Then early on the first day of the week they returned to the tomb and the rock covering the entrance of the tomb had been rolled away, then they seen Jesus sitting in the tomb alive and he told them to tell his disciples that he would wait for them in Galilee, then they fled the tomb and said nothing to anyone because they were scared
What does the ascension teach us about Jesus?
The ascension teaches us that:
-the apostles worship Jesus because they recognise his divinity.
-Jesus opens the minds of his apostles to the scriptures.
-Jesus takes the apostles to the outskirts of Bethany, where he ascends his body and soul into heaven.
-Jesus tells the apostles that they will receive the Holy Spirit, and that they must stay in Jerusalem until this happens.
Why is the resurrection important to Christians today?
The resurrection is important to Christians today because:
-It shows God the father’s approval of Jesus.
-It shows us that Jesus is who he said he was, the messiah and the son of God, therefore what he had said was true.
-It was God’s new saving act because through his death Jesus bridged the gap between God and Humanity created by sin.
-It shows that there is life after death.
How did Jesus’ trial before the high priest breach the Sanhedrin’s own rules?
The trial before the high priest breached the Sanhedrin’s rules because:
-there was a lack of evidence.
-the witnesses were allowed to hear each others testimony’s, therefore there was false testimony.
-the high priest asked Jesus direct questions, this was irregular procedure.
-the proceedings were held at night in the high priest’s house
Why is the Last Supper important to Christians?
The last supper is important to Christians because:
-It is the origin of the Eucharist.
-Jesus commanded his followers ‘do this in remembrance of me’.
-The bread and wine are now the source of Jesus’ body and blood for Christians.
-It is a reminder of the new covenant as Jesus becomes the new Paschal scarifice
Describe Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem.
When Jesus entered Jerusalem;
-The people were shouting ‘hosanna’ because they recognised him as their king.
-The people were waving palms as a sign of adoration and respect.
-Victorious Kings would enter a city on a war horse in a great procession, however Jesus entered the city on a colt, therefore he is a sign of peace.
-The Colt had never been ridden, and any animal that was destined for sacrifice could not be used in any other way, therefore Jesus was seen as a sacrifice.
What do Christian’s believe about the incarnation?
Christians believe that:
-God entered the human realm in the form of Jesus
-Jesus was truly god and truly man at the same time
-Jesus is part of the trinity-God the son
-Jesus had a miraculous virgin birth which shows that he was truly divine
How might beliefs about the incarnation affect the life of Christians?
Beliefs about the incarnation could affect Christians lives because:
-Some Christians use images of Jesus as a focus for their prayers.
-It helps Christian’s to feel closer to God because he knows what it feels like to be fully human.
-In communion they would remember that Jesus dies for their sins.
-They worship Jesus as God asking for his help and guidance in their lives.
