Motor hierarchy till spinal Flashcards
Motor programs (goals)
At highest level of motor hierarchy, motor programs are a set of commands to initiate a sequence of movements
Motor invariance
Ability to execute same motor actions with different body parts. Evidence for motor programs at top of hierarchy
Motor execution (muscles)
Lowest level, elementary behavioral units activate individual muscle fibers. Direct link betw. action potential in specific neuron and simple muscle contraction
- Highest level structures (planning)
SMA (top, no sensory info required)
Premotor cortex (involved in learning, input required)
Prefrontal area
- M1 (Motor cortex)
Partially involved in planning of movement, partially in activating specific muscle groups
- Basal Ganglia
Selecting and inhibiting motor actions and simple learning
- Cerebellum
Adjusting ongoing movements. Sensory motor coordination
- Brainstem
Relaying motor signals and adjusting posture
- Spinal cord
Direct activation of single fibers and taking care of reflexes
