Cortical pathways Flashcards
1
Q
Contralateral
A
Left motor cortex controls right side and vice versa
2
Q
Topographical maps (motor map)
A
Representation of where body parts are in the brain (parts close together also close in the brain)
3
Q
Medullary pyramids
A
Change sides. At the end of the medulla, neurons either branch off to control facial muscles or continue down to spinal cord
4
Q
Movement maps
A
Stimulation can lead to muscle contractions, suggesting it’s not for indivi muscles but programs for movement.
5
Q
Coded in M1
A
Direction and the force of movement. Not direct muscle contractions but the planning of movement.
6
Q
Upper vs lower
A
Upper motor systems define what to do and how to do it. Lower perform actual action
