Damage/syndromes Flashcards
Connectivity
Key for PFC to carry out executive functions. All connections support different functions
Prefrontal damage
Typically leaves perceptual, language, motor etc intact (normal in first appearance).
Very complex, mostly impairments in forming, updating and implementing rules for appropriate/effective behaviour.
Dysexecutive syndrome
After lateral PFC damage, don’t plan for the future, begin new project or set long-term goals. Short attention and unable to understand own actions
Disinhibition syndrome
Ventral and medial PFC damage. Unproductive movement and overly expressive. Laugh inappropriate times, overshare and manic.
Posterior frontal lobe regios
Motor behaviour
Developed early
Simple functions
Match behaviour to stimuli
Anterior frontal lobe regions
Reasoning and mental simulation
Developed late in live
Complex functions
Higher-order goals
