Also involving skills, knowledge of the world and events. Occur when an experience or interaction with the world results in changed behavior. Results from LTP and LTD
Steps of learning
1 encoding/acquisition
2. Consolidation
3. Retrieval/remember
Encoding
Senses store info in sensory buffers (sensory/iconic memory). High capacity with very short storage. Info actively attended goes to short term store
Consolidation
Info from short term is sent to long term (unlimited capacity) any unattended info is lost
Retrieval
Info is uploaded from the long term to the working memory. Allow us to verbalize/use knowledge
