Interaction of cognitive functions Flashcards
Amygdala
Responsible for bypass of stimuli, significance is prio to incnsequential
Mood regulation
Balance between ventral emotional and dorsal attentional functions. Regulated by anterior cingulate cortex and the medial/orbital prefrontal cortex.
Memory consolidation
Amygdala facilitates consolidation processes in other brain regions, making it more salient.
direct influence: axonal projections
Indirect: hormonal release.
Stress response system
the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis respons to stress, activity is measured with cortisol levels:
- hypothalamus sends CRH to pituitary gland
- PG sends ACTH to adrenal gland
- Adrenal gland releases cortisol
Cortisol affects the hypothalamus to calm down body
Sympathetic nervous system
fight/flight system, ready for action. Butterfly feeling and sweat in hands/feat (SCRs)
Emotion regulation
Attempt to control intensity, duration or u
Emotion regulation
Attempt to control intensity, duration or quality of emotion. Two strategies:
Situation selection; avoid situation, like taking train instead of flying bc of fear
Cognitive reappraisal; reinterpretation of elicitor so impact changes
