What is intrinsic motivation ?
It is when a person engages in an activity to derive pleasure and satisfaction from the activity itself . this type of motivation comes from within a person
Name an example of intrinsic motivation .
For example , a person may run a marathon to enjoy the process of training for it and the personal satisfaction that comes from completing the race
What is extrinsic motivation ?
It is when a person engages in an activity for tangible or intangible rewards that come from the activity
Name an example of extrinsic motivation .
For example , a person may run a marathon for the prize money , finisher T-shirt medal , or the recognition he / she will get from his /her peers for completing the marathon
State the factors affecting intrinsic motivation.
Personal achievement , sense of competence , perceived control , self confidence , positive self - regard
State the factors affecting extrinsic motivation.
Social approval , material rewards , social status
What is personal achievement ?
It refers to attaining the goals or targets an individual sets for him / herself
What is sense of competence ?
it refers to the need to fuel and function effectively in an activity
What is perceived control ?
It refers to an individual’s belief in having control over the activities that he / she is engaging in
What is self confidence ?
It refers to an individual’s belief in his/her ability to achieve success
What is positive self - regard ?
It refers to respect or consideration for oneself
What is social approval ?
It refers to the positive appraisal and acceptance of a person by a social group . It can include compliments , praise , etc
What is social status ?
It refers to a person’s standing or level of importance in relation to others within a society
What is the difference of tangible and intangible rewards ?
Tangible rewards are in physical forms that are received by an individual such as medal or trophies . Intangible rewards are in non-physical forms that are received by an individual such as praises and encouragement from the coach , the cheers and applause from spectators etc
