PIAGETS THEORY OF MORAL DEVELOPMENT: WHAT IS THE HETERONOMOUS MORALITY STAGE:
5 - 10 yrs, rules passed down from moral of constraint. they can’t be changed and have to be followed or else there is consequences.
PIAGET THEORY OF MORAL DEVELOPMENT: WHAT IS THE AUTONOMOUS STAGE:
10 + years. morality of cooperation, understanding rules from communication and cooperation with each other..
PIAGET BELIEVES MORAL DEVELOPMENT IS DRIVEN BY:
cognitive changes from peer interaction, A DECLINE IN EGOCENTRISM.
Piaget looked at intention vs outcomes, judgements about moral dilemmas. (unknown glass smash or smashing glass u knew was there)
What are the difficulties in this?
- Understanding children intentions? Can we really know what a child thinks about the situation.
- Lack of clarity about what exactly is developing.
- Underestimating certain abilities in young children

- Pre-conventional: Punishment and Instrumental
- Conventional: Good boy good girl and Social Order
- Post Conventional: Social Contract and Ethical Principle.

There is a failure to see different reality of women lives. It is believed that there is only one single mode of social experience and interpretation.

Indians chose interpersonal 84%, American chose it 39%

pre school provides a more sophisticated understanding between moral and social conventional.
SOCIAL RESPONSES:
moral violations require reparation to the victim such as apologising.
