How does molluscum contagiosum present?
Hemispherical papules of 2-5mm diameter which are:
- pearly
- raised
- firm
These develop on the face, abdomen, buttocks, genitals
How long is the latent period in molluscum contagiosum?
15-50 days
How does molluscum contagiosum progress/resolve and how long can lesions be present for?
Spontaneous regression generally occurs
- lesions can be present for several months
What causes lesions to be extensive and persistent in molluscum contagiosum?
Immunocompromised states, including HIV, can cause lesions to be extensive and persistent
