Morphine overdose features?
Reduced responsiveness
Pinpoint pupils
Respiratory depression
Treatment for morphine/opiate overdose?
Naloxone
Naloxone MoA?
Very strong affinity for mu receptors so outcompetes opiate molecules for binding sites
Points of caution with naloxone?
- Very strong affinity for mu receptors so may rapidly induce opiate withdrawal + seizures
- Also has a shorter half-life than opiates, so repeated doses or infusion may be required
Antimuscarinic overdose antidote?
atropine, ipratropium, scopolamine/hyoscine, tropicamide
Physostigmine
Aspirin overdose antidote?
Sodium bicarbonate
Benzodiazepine overdose antidote? (chlordiazepoxide, diazepam, most -epams)
Flumazenil
Beta-blocker overdose antidote?
Atropine, glucagon
CO poisoning antidote?
Oxygen
Digoxin overdose antidote?
Digibind
Heparin overdose antidote?
