- how “Quail” (subjective, qualitative experiences) emerge
- ex: what it “feels like” to experience the color red

selective attention
A
- focusing on something at the expense of other things
- takes too much metabolic energy to focus on everything all the time

inattention blindness
A
- failing to notice something in plain sight because your attention is focus on something else

change blindness
A
- failing to notice a change, typically after an interruption

dual processing
A
- we can process things automatically and unconsciously, but also more deliberately using conscious processes

parallel processing
A
- processing a scene all at once
- simple feature search
- number of distractors doesn’t change search time

serial search
A
- processing items one at a time
- common for conjunction search

blindsight
A
- rare condition in which a patient can detect and even use visual information, but ht visual information doesn’t reach conscious awareness
- ex: not knowing subconsciously to step around objects when walking down a hallway
