Medical terminology
Medical terminologies are used primarily by people who:
- Deliver direct patient care
2. Support direct patient care
This shared understanding offers other benefits:
- Improved communication between and among
healthcare professionals - Improved interaction between humans and the
technology used in health care (e-health records) - Ease in performing clinical proceedings
- Improved efficiency in the delivery of clinical care
- Faster and more accurate documentation of
conditions and treatments - Improved comprehensions of reports and medical
literature - A uniform language to describe similar ideas, conditions, or instrument
- Increased trust among professionals with a shared

Asthma
nondecodable terms that are named after
a person or a place associated with the term.
Eponyms
a syndrome resulting from insufficient production of hormones from the cortex of the adrenal gland
Addison’s disease
a type of irreversible dementia
Alzheimer’s disease
a heart condition characterized by sudden loss of consciousness.
Stokes-Adams syndrome
located in the female perineum
Bartholin’s glands
located beneath a portion of the male urethra, also known as bulbouretheral glands
Cowper’s glands
located at the back of the leg and is the thickest tendon in the human body.
Achilles tendon
a test for occlusion of radial or ulnar arteries
Allen’s test
a technique for removing foreign, obstructing objects from the airway of a choking victim.
Heimlich maneuver
an indwelling urinary catheter
Foley catheter
a central venous catheter inserted for long-term use
Hickman catheter
threaded into the pulmonary artery
Swan-Ganz catheter
