Mitosis Flashcards
1
Q
interphase
A
- 1st phase
- prepares for division by replicating its genetic and cytoplasmic material
- can be further divided in G1, S, and G2
2
Q
prophase
A
- 2nd phase
- chromatin thickens into chromosomes and the nuclear membrane begins to disintegrate
- pairs of centrioles move to opposite sides of the cell and spindle fibers begin to form
3
Q
metaphase
A
- 3rd phase
- spindles move to center of the cell and chromosomes pairs align along the center of the spindle structure
4
Q
anaphase
A
- 4th phase
- pairs of chromosomes, called sisters, begin to pull apart, and may bend
5
Q
telophase
A
- 5th phase
spindle disintegrates, the nuclear membranes reform, and chromosome revert to chromatin
- Animal: membrane pinched
- Plant: new cell wall form
6
Q
cytokineses
A
- 6th phase
- physical splitting of the cell into 2
