Mitosis Flashcards
Somatic cell
Every cell other than sex cells
Sister Chromotids
Identical chromosomes that replicated before mitosis
Centromere
Holds chromosomes together in the middle
Mitosis
The division of genetic information in the cell (nucleus)
Cytokinesis
Division of the cytoplasm and the plasma membrane
Chromatin
DNA/protein complex when it is not compressed during interphase
Chromosome
Condenced chromatin, it does this when it is duplcating
Phases of Mitosis
Interphase Prophase Prometaphase Metaohase Anaphase Telophase Cytokinesis
Interphase
90% of cells life
G1 phase
S phase
G2 Phase
G1 Phase
First gap phase
Cell undergoes regular function
S phase
Synthesis, DNA replicates it’s self into sister chromotids
G2 phase
2nd gap phase
Cell makes proteins and centosomes douplicate
Centrosomes
Divides into two during interphase and migrate to the opposite side of the cell
Prophase
Cromosomes condence
microtubioles grow out of centrosomes
nucleur envolope begins to break down
Metaphase
Centrosomes move to oposite ends of cell
Chromosomes line up on the metaphase plate (middle)
Anaphase
Shortest stage
sister chromatides are pulled to opposite sides of the cell
Telophase
2 daughter nuclei form
chromosomes decondense
Mitosis is complete
Cytokinesis
Cleavage furrow pinched the cell in two and there are two complete daughter cells.
