(Missing Persons/Runaways) Under what (3) circumstances will entry into NCIC be made?
- All juveniles 17 years old and younger, within 2 hours after receiving the minimum data
- Missing person 18 through 20 years old, will also be immediately entered into NCIC
- Adults who;
- has a disability
- in physical danger
- involuntary circumstance
- victim of a catastrophe
- other suspicious circumstances.
(Missing Persons/Runaways) If during your investigation, a missing juvenile is located, will the report still be completed and the NCIC record be cancelled by contacting records?
Yes
(Missing Persons/Runaways) If the missing person has not been located, what are the (7) circumstances will a supervisor ensure Missing Persons (day shift) or CAYF (after hours) be notified?
(Hint, its the same criteria that patrol will be dispatched out to a missing person situation)
- The missing person is under 12 or an adult has a documented diminished mental capacity equivalent to under 12
- The missing person has a physical or medial condition which would hinder their ability to care for themselves
- The missing person is a possible victim of foul play
- The missing person is thought to be suicidal
- The missing person has another potential life threatening situation
- The missing juvenile is identified as a High Risk Runaway
- The missing person is in possession of a large amount of money or a firearm
(Missing Persons/Runaways) If a person meets the criteria for having a NCIC/NIC number and was entered into NCIC, what will the officer do if the report has not been completed and the person located?
A report will be completed even if the subject is located due to being entered into NCIC
(Missing Persons/Runaways) Will homicide be notified for a missing person who is believed to have committed suicide?
No
Homicide should be notified any time is it suspected the missing person is not voluntarily missing and may be a victim of homicide
(Missing Persons/Runaways) What (4) things are needed for activate an Amber Alert?
- Confirmed abduction
- Child is under 18 years old
- Threat of serious bodily harm or death
- Info on suspect and/or vehicle
(Missing Persons/Runaways) Reference parental abductions, if custody rights have been established by a court order, judgement or operation of law, can the adverse party be investigated as an abducting parent ‘if probable cause exists’?

One major factor to consider if detectives need to be notified is whether there is a reasonable belief that the child is in immediate danger of physical harm in the custody of the adverse parent
