Question 1

(Booking Evidence/Property) All evidence/property will be impounded prior to the end of shift. What are the (5) exceptions?

1. Booking may be delayed when the property is of such great volume or complexity that it precludes proper follow-up by the investigative units (Secure Property will be secured immediately)
2. CSI may retain certain types of biological and clandestine lab evidence (Secure property may be kept by CSI, past the end of shift for examination/process)
3. Items of documentary nature, such as forged or stolen checks, altered titles, counterfeited papers, may be temporarily stored at Forgery
4. Recordings of a robbery in progress (video tape, CD, surveillance recordings).
5. Impounding beverages/waters and associated items (cooler and other storage containers) from people illegally distributing these items. (These items will be photographed, documented in an O/R or Arrest Report and destroyed)

Will be transported during normal business hours to a firearms examiner of the Forensic Lab prior to impound. After hours, the on-duty CSI supervisor will be contacted for assistance.
