why did railways increase industrialzation
they transported materials in a much faster manor then canals. They were much cheaper and could deliver more.this helped boost the other growing indutries such as iron and coal because of the amount of coal needed to fuel railways. Investors bought into them. They employed many people as train staff and side markets. population grew
main obstacles to german unification
if goverment should or shouldnt include austria, failure of the frankfurt parlimet to resolve its differences, different political beliefs among people, division of liberals and radicals, economic issues (rising food, protest among the poor)
why did the frankfurt parliament fail
members couldnt agree on territorial extent, debate about austrias position, members lacked experience and couldnt solve issues. it lacked its own army (battle on jutland peninsula) fredrich wilhelm refused the crown leading to a confidence gain in princes to leave the parliament
why did revolutions occur in german states in 1848
european rulers were crumbling, (metternich in exile) (philippe in england) bad living condistions for pesants and rising food prices. this led to protests among the poor for better conditions. middle class was grasping the concept of liberalism and nationalism. they pressured rulers and wanted a unified germany. in prussia, metternichs fall led to outbreak and protest. army lost control of situation (starts prussian revolution)
