microscopes Flashcards
magnification
The number of times larger the image is compared to the real size of the object
resolution
measure of the ability to distinguish between 2 separate points (which are close together)
magnification equation
size of image/actual size
light microscope wavelength resolution and magnification
400-700nm, 200nm, 1500
TEM wavelength resolution and magnification
0.005nm, 1nm, 250000
SEM wavelength resolution and magnification
0.005nm, 10nm, 100000
why can electron microscopes resolve much greater detail than a light microscope
they use electrons which have a shorter wavelength than visible light so smaller things are able to go through the wavelengths
sem vs tem differences
tem in is inside set is surface
tem needs electrons to go through
see needs electrons to be reflected
