Metal Finish Uses Flashcards
Cullulose and acrylic paints purpose
Provide colour and a textured finish.
Provide a barrier against corrosion.
Specialist prints provide texture or special graphic effects
Electroplating purpose
A protective layer, more hardware finish and enhanced aesthetic
Polymer dip coating purpose
Used on products such as wire coat hangers, kitchen dish strainers, coat hooks, dishwasher racks and outdoor play equipment frames
Metal dip coating purpose
Provides a barrier against corrosion.
Powder coating purpose
Protection from corrosion anaesthetic pill, more hardware and paint.
Used on washing machine bodies, dishwasher bodies and refrigerator, bodies, metal gates, fencing, and railings
Metal varnish purposes
Protect the metal and allows the colour of the base metal to show through used on aluminium brass and copper
Sealants purposes
Tough polymer base sealant coatings to protect polish services from decay and tarnishing.
Often used in the automotive industry against the effects of weathering road results and insect attack
Preservatives purpose
Can provide temporary in process or final post processing medium to long-term protection for metal surfaces.
Often used in moles and dives for preventing fingerprints showing on surfaces minor atmospheric creation or condensation buildup
Anodising purpose
Commonly used for aluminium products to enhance an actual oxide layer resulting in an increased hardness and toughness.
Can also provide colour.
Used in the out casings of torches external hard drive covers and casings for mobile phones or digital music players
Cellulose and acrylic paint application
The surface of the metal is cleaned and decrease to ensure that the primer has a surface to grip to. The primer is followed by an undercoat in a similar colour to the topcoat.
Paints can be applied by brush or spray.
Electroplating application
The product and donor material are placed in a container with an electrolyte solution. As the direct current is applied the product attracts the donor metal and the product is electroplated.
Polymer dip coating application
The metal product is heated to 230°C. The hot product is dipped into a tank of fine polymer powder which has air flowing through it to provide an even coating to the product. The retained heat from the product melts the polymer powder over the product which is an air code to allow the coaching to set evenly.
Metal dip coating application
Metals are coated by dipping the product into a tank of molten plating metal. The metals must be clean and decreased.
Powder coating application
The product to be coted is negatively statically charged. Do set polymer resin is positively charged and is sprayed through an air gun. The use of charge results in a strong traction between the powder and the product. The product is them baked in an oven which melts the powder over the product give an even coating.
Metal varnishing application
The metal is polished to shine and any surface grease removed. The varnish is then applied by either spray or fine brush.
