Meyer
Studied 17 patients who had not taken antidepressants for 5 months. Using PET scans, they compared brain activities between depressed and clinically normal patients and found to have higher levels of MAOA in the depressed patients brains (in 11 parts)

Clinical interviews of over 500 adopted children and over 400 non adopted children. Found that the risk of major depression heightened if the mothers had it. Environment was found to have played a greater part in the development of major depression in children of parents with lifelong major depression, than those who did not.

Found that results from fMRI scanners showed higher activity in the amygdala within depressed patients when presented with a negative stimulus rather than a positive one, compared to controls.
