Did the abandoned car experiment. Left an abandoned car with no license plates and the bonnet up in the streets of both California and new york. The new york car was vandalised and parts were taken from it within the first few hours. The California car remained untouched for a week, until zimbardo smashed a window with a hammer which resulted the car being completely destroyed within the next few hours.

Defensible space. Lack of this is why public areas result in despair and promoted crime. Displayed through the Van dyke and Brownsville building designs. Concluded that a sense of ownership and control will increase pride and reduced crime.

Zero tolerance policing. Reduced crime rates by focusing on crime prevention , tackling low level crime and antisocial behaviour. The objective was to build relationships with the community and reduce the fear of crime by increasing the number of police on patrol. Caused a reduction in 37% of crime in NY.

Suggests tackling crime prevention by introducing a national agency to fund early prevention of offending snd identify risk factors. The risk factors prevention should be used alongside other general crime reduction strategies.
