Memory Booklet 5: Economic implications Flashcards
What are the economic implications of the MSM?
-Suggests we use rehearsal to move info from STM to LTM
-This is helpful in the real world as teachers can ensure that students go over information that is important for them to remember to help move into LTM. If they encourage students to revise their notes it will make sure elaborative rehearsal takes place
-Economic benefit as it can help ensure that students perform better in exams, better education, better jobs/ more likely to get jobs
What are the economic implications of types of LTM?
Research shown us that there are different types of LTM. Some people suffer from brain damage which results in some aspects of LTM working and others not
-Helpful in the real world as we can give specialized training to those with certain conditions of ltm damage
-This can help them find a job that works for them and contribute to economy
What are the economic implications of the WMM?
-Research shown us that it is easier to perform two tasks that require different components of the working memory model than two tasks of the same component. (difficult to do two movement/visual tasks)
-Helpful in real world as laws changed to make sure people don’t attempt text and drive
-Economic benefit as it means that there are more people able to contribute to economy and work more professionally with more attention and focus
-Economy is also more diverse so people bring their own expertise from other cultures
What are the economic implications of interference?
-Strategies can be put in place to help people when they do forget information, for example, in the work place training it’s often repeated at regular intervals as we know people will forget. Ensuring that people are effectively able to respond to thing in their jobs that they need to such as being able to respond if someone has an accident at work.
-Can also be applied to students as when it comes to revision, they can try prioritise revising subjects different after each other to avoid interference
-Economic benefit because it means more people getting educations and jobs
What are the economic implications of EWT factors?
-Helpful in the real world as knowing about the effects of misleading info has resulted in the Devlin report, which is good because it improves accuracies of Jury based convictions
-Knowing that anxiety is a factor affecting the accuracy of EWT has resulted in the development of the ECI, helpful because we can improve the accuracy of EWT and gain more accurate convictions
-Economic benefit as more criminals accurately convicted and less innocents accused, so less money spent on containing falsely accused, or researching into their cases, more people working
