What are the three stages of memory?
Encoding, storage and retrieval.
What kinds or memory and memory stores are included in the multi-store memory model?
Episodic (autobiographical), sematic (knowledge about the world) and procedural (skills-based)
Sensory store and short-term store
What are the components of working memory?
Visio-spatial scratch pad, short term store and articulatory loop.
What is the recency effect?
When asked to recall a list of items in any order (free recall), people tend to begin recall with the end of the list, recalling those items best.
What is the primacy effect?
Among earlier list items, the first few items are recalled more frequently than the middle items.
What is iconic memory?
Visual - no recency effect
What is echoic memory?
Phonological - recency preserved.
What is chunking?
Recoding new material into larger, more meaningful units.
What is the capacity of working memory?
Digit span: 7 +/- 2
What is hyperthymesia?
Superior autobiographical memory.
