Medicinal Chemistry Terminology Flashcards
Active principle
The compounds in the mixture that is responsible for that mixture’s biological activity
Absorption
When liquid molecules are completely absorbed inside the solid molecules
Adsorption
Where liquid molecule adheres to a surface of solid molecules
Affinity
Refers to a drug’s ability to bind to a biological target
Agonist
A drug or an endogenous ligand that can bind to a receptor and elicit a biological response
Antagonist
Receptor ligands that bind to receptors without activating it
Intermolecular interactions
Interactions that occur between molecules
Intramoleular interactions
Interactions that occur within a molecule
In vitro
Experiments /studies performed with isolated macromolecules, cells, or tissue samples
In vivo
Experiments/studies performed with live animals or humans
Qualitative analysis
Presence or absence of a substance in a sample
Quantitative analysis
Determination of the concentration of a substance in a sample
