Medial Thigh Muscles Flashcards
What muscles make up the medial thigh?
Adductor longus, adductor brevis, adductor magnus, gracilis, and obturator externus
What movement do medial thigh muscles usually perform?
Adduction
What nerve typically innervates medial thigh muscles?
Obturator nerve
What is the origin of the adductor longus?
Body of pubis inferior to pubic crest
Where does the adductor longus insert?
Middle third of linea aspera of femur
What is the innervation of the adductor longus?
Obturator nerve (L2, L3, L4)
What action does the adductor longus perform?
Adducts hip joint
What is the origin of the adductor brevis?
Body and inferior ramus of pubis
Where does the adductor brevis insert?
Pectineal line and proximal part of linea aspera of femur
What is the innervation of the adductor brevis?
Obturator nerve (L2, L3, L4)
What action does the adductor brevis perform?
Adducts hip joint and kinda flexes it
What is the origin of the adductor magnus?
Adductor part- inferior ramus of pubis and ramus of ischium
Hamstring part- ischial tuberoisty
Where does the adductor magnus insert?
Adductor part- gluteal tuberosity, linea aspera, medial supraepicondylar line
Hamstring part- adductor tubercle of femur
What is the innervation of the adductor magnus?
Adductor part- obturator nerve (L2, L3, L4)
Hamstriing part- tibial part of sciatic nerve (L4)
What action does the adductor magnus perform?
Adducts hip joint; its adductor part flexes hip joint, hamstring part extends it
