Anterior Thigh Muscles Flashcards
What muscles make up the anterior thigh?
Pectineus, iliopsoas, sartorius, and quadriceps femoris
What muscles make up the quadriceps femoris?
Rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus intermedius, vastus medialis
What nerve generally innervates the anterior thigh muscles?
Femoral nerve
Which muscle is the chief flexor of the hip joint?
Iliopsoas
Which muscle is the greatest extensor of the knee joint?
Quadriceps femoris
What is the origin of the pectineus?
Superior ramis of pubis
Where does the pectineus insert?
Pectineal line of femur, just inferior to lesser trochanter
What is the innervation of the pectineus?
Femoral nerve (L2, L3)
What action does the pectineus perform?
Adducts and flexes hip joint; assits with medial rotaion of the hip
What is the origin of the sartorius?
Anterior superior iliac spine and superior part of notch inferior to it
Where does the sartorius insert?
Superior part of medial surface of tibia
What is the innervation of the sartorius?
Femoral nerve (L2, L3)
What action does the sartorius perform?
Flexes, abducts, and laterally rotates hip joint, flexes knee joint
What is the origin of the psoas major?
Sides of T12-L5 vertebrae and discs between them; transverse processes of lumbar vertebrae
Where does the psoas major insert?
Lesser trochanter of femur
